Electric

Most of Vera’s power comes from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), which generates power from dams on the Columbia, Snake and other Northwest rivers. Another smaller portion of our power comes from the Northwest Intergovernmental Energy Supply (NIES), a group of publicly-owned utilities that have banded together to purchase facilities which generate power. More than 60 percent of what you pay us goes straight to BPA. A rate increase from BPA has a dramatic effect on the rates our customers are charged.

Water

The water we provide is pumped from the Spokane-Rathdrum Aquifer and then treated through a chlorination system. We pump water from 10 wells located throughout the district. All the wells are tied together through a pipe system — you may be receiving water from our oldest well, dug by hand in 1908, or our newest well, located at 24th and Adams, which started in 2013. In 2013, Vera Water and Power began full-time chlorination of the water system.

Annual water billingVera reads your water meter annually.

Water meters are read annually to calculate annual usage. Customers are billed annually, typically in October, for water usage that exceeds the monthly minimum. Annual excess water bills are calculated on a 1,000-cubic-foot basis. The residential rate for water varies. The more you use, the lower the rate per 1,000 cubic feet. We will begin the annual water meter reading after Labor Day in 2016. Here is more information.
