We understand a price increase of any kind can create a financial impact for many of you. So, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

It is our privilege to serve our customers high-quality drinking water that is pumped directly from the Spokane Valley-Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer. As stewards of this privilege, it is our responsibility to build and maintain the entire system’s integrity and reliability. This responsibility is core to Vera’s mission as a community-owned public utility.

Vera has the unique advantage of financing large capital asset construction projects, like pump stations and water main replacements, through the issuance of tax-exempt bonds. These bonds allow us to borrow money at very reasonable rates. In 2021, Vera issued a $4.6 million bond sale. A portion of the proceeds was allocated to the water division to build a replacement for the Ball Booster Station and install piping to an overflow pond for the 4-million-gallon reservoir. This, and other planned investments, make our water system more efficient and help ensure water for the future.

During 2021, the prices for supplies and materials sharply increased. These increased costs, coupled by the financial impact of reinvestment in our infrastructure through bonds, require an increase to the monthly water base charge. The monthly water base charge will continue to fund the replacement of aging pipes, pumps, and equipment.

To maintain financial and operational viability, Vera Water and Power will increase the monthly water base charge effective March 1, 2022. For most residential customers, their monthly bill will increase by $1.13 per month as the base monthly charge will go from the current $18.65 to $19.78. Commercial customers, customers with larger meters and at higher elevations that require booster pumps will have higher price increases. To determine your new monthly water base rate, there are water rate charts at There are 24 different water base rates depending on your meter size and customer class.
