To meet the changing needs and increasing load growth of its customers, BPA is investing in transmission grid upgrades and new construction. They’re also enhancing the hydropower and Columbia Generation systems to ensure a consistent supply of affordable, carbon-free power that supports our region’s economic growth.
Vera Manages Energy Costs
We are working with other Public Power utilities and BPA to implement a strategic 3-year rate plan. Our goal is to offset the impact on customers by encouraging BPA to gradually increase spending over time, rather than implementing a sudden, large increase.
Our proposed solution is a phased approach, where BPA incrementally raises spending in smaller, annual adjustments over 3 years. This measured and deliberate strategy allows BPA to reach necessary spending levels while minimizing the immediate impact on our customers’ rates.
Vera Water and Power faces similar challenges as BPA regarding inflation, infrastructure investments, and labor pressures. We recognize the need to increase spending to tackle these issues and maintain system reliability.
Historically, Vera has mirrored BPA’s rate cycle, evaluating electric rates every 2 years, with the last electric rate change occurring in October 2023. To offset substantial biennial price fluctuations, we will transition to an annual price review.
